Funding schemes

The following AusAID funding programs provide further opportunities for involvement in Australia's aid program.

Government Partnerships for Development facility (GPFD)

The GPFD will fund a range of activities with a focus on assisting the development of counterpart agencies in partner countries, drawing on the skills, knowledge and expertise of Commonwealth, state and territory government agencies, and public universities.

The AusAID Development Research Awards Scheme (ADRAS)is designed to attract quality research that informs policy development and increases the general stock of knowledge around development issues.

Australian Leadership Awards—Fellowships

Fellowships grants are available for short-term study, research, and professional attachment programs in Australia delivered by Australian organisations. Fellowships target current and emerging leaders from the Asia-Pacific region and foster existing linkages between community, civil society, private sector, research, academia and Australian government agencies. Applications are sought and assessed on a competitive basis from Australian organisations.

Community-based Climate Change Action Grants

In recognition of the important role that non-government organisations (NGOs) play in developing and implementing community-based climate change responses, the Australian Government is committing up to $30 million over two years to Community-based Climate Change Action Grants to support adaptation and mitigation activities in developing countries.

Community-based adaptation activity grants—International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative

The Australian Government called for applications for Australian and international non-government organisations (NGOs) to work with local organisations to scale up current successful community–based adaptation activities or to build an adaptation component onto existing community–based activities in the Pacific region and Timor-Leste.

Enterprise Challenge Fund for the Pacific and South-East Asia ( ECF)

The ECF aims to reduce poverty by encouraging private sector led pro-poor growth. Through open competition, up to 50 per cent of project costs will be awarded to private sector firms to undertake projects in selected countries in the Pacific and South-East Asia. The scheme operates in 9 countries (Fiji, Papua New Guinea, selected provinces of Indonesia, southern Philippines, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Laos and Timor-Leste) and projects are currently underway.

Human Rights Grants Scheme

This initiative provides small grants to in-country organisations (primarily non-government) for activities aimed at promoting and protecting human rights in a direct and tangible way.

International Seminar Support Scheme ( ISSS)

AusAID administers the ISSS program. The program provides financial support for selected participants to attend development-oriented international seminars in Australia and overseas.
